New Year 7 Students - September 2021

We look forward to welcoming our new cohort of Year 7 students to the Academy in September.  We will soon be in touch with parents to invite you and your child to an interview and with further details about our transition programme.  Interviews will be arranged to take place during the next half-term.

In the meantime, our transition team will soon be making contact with primary schools to speak to Year 6 teachers and, if possible, make arrangements to speak informally to your child.

Rest assured that we are doing out utmost to ensure that your child’s transition to our community goes as smoothly as possible, and is as similar as we can make it to what we would do in normal times.

Tours of the Academy

We are delighted to once again be able to welcome prospective parents and their children for a tour of the Academy.  These will be carried out in a safe and socially distanced manner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week at 2.15pm.  Booking is essential.  Please visit https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tours-of-southfields-academy-tickets-154388517211 for full details and to book your tickets.  Alternatively, please email sean.french@southfieldsacademy.com if you would like to arrange to see the Academy in action.

Primary to Secondary Transition

We know that moving from primary to secondary school can sometimes be a big step for a child, and their parents or carers, so we try to make the transition as smooth as possible.  We run a unique transition programme for our new students before they arrive at the Academy which involves visits to primary schools, one-to-one interviews and an induction day, all of which we know from experience helps to ensure a successful move to secondary school.  Occasionally a student will need further support after they start at the Academy.  In this case we offer a primary-secondary transition group which will ensure that, within a few weeks, a student is feeling secure, happy and confident about life at Southfields Academy.

The BBC has put together some information to support parents / carers with children transferring to secondary school.  Click here to visit.

There is a fantastic resource available to young people transitioning from Year 6 to Year 7 to help them get a headstart in mathematics, click here to visit the page and sign up for free.

Our successes

In 2020 our GCSE results were the strongest ever for the Academy - 75% of our GCSE students achieved grades 9-4 in English and mathematics with 81% of our A Level students achieving A*-C, ensuring their place at some of the U.K.'s top universities.  Students taking creative subjects, such as dance, achieve a 100% pass rate; this was the best performance across Wandsworth schools.  Our music GCSE results placed Southfields Academy in the top 58 schools in England.  In the Sixth Form, 75% of Sixth Form students who studied vocational subjects, such as music, business and graphics attained a Distinction* or Distinction grade.  All this in the midst of a pandemic!

Our students make amazing progress in such a variety of ways and we pride ourselves on the pastoral care that we give them.  We see each child as an individual and we will do our utmost to ensure that the needs of all of our students are met during their time at the Academy to equip them for a successful future.

I look forward to welcoming your child to the Southfields Academy family in September.
