New Year 7 Students - September 2020

New Year 7 Students - September 2020

We look forward to welcoming our new cohort of Year 7 students to the Academy in the autumn.  We have written to parents/carers with further details about our transition programme and with next steps in their child's journey to starting secondary school.  Parents/carers should have received an email inviting them to complete admissions documentation and giving log in details to enable this.  If you have not, please email admissions@southfieldsacademy.com.  Following the completion of admissions documentation, parents/ carers will be asked to log back into the online system, to book a telephone admissions meeting.  These last for about 20mins and are from Monday 8th June until Friday 19th June.  This will enable us to get to know your child better before they start with us and for you to ask us any questions.

In the meantime, our transition team are busily contacting primary schools to speak to Year 6 teachers to learn more about our new students.  This replaces our usual personal visits to primary schools to meet with students and their teachers.

Rest assured that we are doing out utmost to ensure that your child’s transition to our community goes as smoothly as possible, and is as similar as we can make it to what we would do in normal times.

Uniform Sale

We await further details from our supplier about how uniform will be made available to purchase.  We’ll update this page as soon as we know more.  In the meantime, our on-site uniform shop is closed.

Tours of the Academy

Due to Covid-19, we have had to suspend tours for the time being for any parents/carers who wish to visit.  We’ll resume these when we can.  Please email sean.french@southfieldsacademy.com if you would like to register your interest in a tour and we’ll arrange this when we are able to offer these safely.

Waiting List

We have a waiting list for Year 7.  If you would like your child to start Year 7 at Southfields Academy in September 2020, please contact our admissions team on 020 8875 2653.

Primary to Secondary Transition

We know that moving from primary to secondary school can sometimes be a big step for a child, and their parents or carers, so we try to make the transition as smooth as possible.  We run a unique transition programme for our new students before they arrive at the Academy which involves visits to primary schools, one-to-one interviews and an induction day, all of which we know from experience helps to ensure a successful move to secondary school.  Occasionally a student will need further support after they start at the Academy.  In this case we offer a primary-secondary transition group which will ensure that, within a few weeks, a student is feeling secure, happy and confident about life at Southfields Academy.

The BBC has put together some information to support parents / carers with children transferring to secondary school.  Click here to visit.

Our successes

We wanted to share with you the recent successes and achievements of our students.  We have been rated Outstanding or Good by Ofsted for the past 18 years.  In 2018 our GCSE results were the strongest ever for the Academy, with the exams more challenging than before.  89% of our students achieved grades 9-4 (previously A*-C) in English and 85% in mathematics.  In their A Level exams, our students achieved 100% pass rate with 33% A*-A.  Over 90 students gained a place at their first choice university with a high proportion being accepted into Russell Group universities.  Students who took vocational exams, such as sport, 3D design, graphics, art, music, performing arts, dance, health & social care and travel & tourism achieved 100% pass rate, with the highest proportion of Distinction* and Distinction grades of any secondary school in Wandsworth.

Our students make amazing progress in such a variety of ways and we pride ourselves on the pastoral care that we give them.  We see each as an individual and we will do our utmost to ensure that the needs of all of our students are met during their time at the Academy to equip them for a successful future.
