New Year 7 Students - September 2019

We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort in September.

Interviews have now taken place and induction day will take place on Tuesday 9th July.  All Year 7 students starting in September are expected to attend as the experience will help students become familiar with Academy procedures and staff, so that they feel more confident about starting their secondary school education in September.  If your child is unable to attend, please inform Ann McCarthy: ann.mccarthy@southfieldsacademy.com.

Students should arrive promptly at 8.20am wearing their full primary school uniform, if they have one, or smartly dressed in their own clothes.  No trainers are to be worn please.  Students should bring a pen, pencil, ruler and reading book, a labelled bottle of water and a P.E. kit, as they may spend part of the day doing a sporting activity.

Students will be placed in tutor groups on arrival and may sit some basic assessments to help us to plan their teaching groups for September.

A snack will be provided at break time, free of charge.

Parents should arrive at 12:15pm ready to collect their child at 12:30pm when the day ends.  The uniform shop will be open at this time.

We look forward to welcoming your child to Southfields Academy.

Primary to Secondary Transition

We know that moving from primary to secondary school can sometimes be daunting for a child, and their parents or carers, so we try to make the transition as smooth as possible.  We run a unique transition programme for our new students before they arrive at the Academy which involves visits to primary schools, one-to-one interviews and an induction day, all of which we know from experience helps to ensure a successful move to secondary school.  Occasionally a student will need further support after they start at the Academy.  In this case we offer a primary-secondary transition group which will ensure that, within a few weeks, a student is feeling secure, happy and confident about life at Southfields Academy.

The BBC has put together some information to support parents with children transferring to secondary school.  Click here to visit.

Our successes

We wanted to share with you the recent successes and achievements of our students.  We have been rated Outstanding or Good by Ofsted for the past 18 years.  In 2018 our GCSE results were the strongest ever for the Academy, with the exams more challenging than before.  89% of our students achieved grades 9-4 (previously A*-C) in English and 85% in mathematics.  In their A Level exams, our students achieved 100% pass rate with 33% A*-A.  Over 90 students gained a place at their first choice university with a high proportion being accepted into Russell Group universities.  Students who took vocational exams, such as sport, 3D design, graphics, art, music, performing arts, dance, health & social care and travel & tourism achieved 100% pass rate, with the highest proportion of Distinction* and Distinction grades of any secondary school in Wandsworth.

Our students make amazing progress in such a variety of ways and we pride ourselves on the pastoral care that we give them.  We see each as an individual and we will do our utmost to ensure that the needs of all of our students are met during their time at the Academy to equip them for a successful future.
